Affinity Atlas
The Frances Young Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery at Skidmore College, 815 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866
Affinity Atlas charts an exploratory path across disciplines built on idiosyncratic treasures from the Tang Teaching Museum collection and punctuated with recent works by a roster of contemporary artists. Artworks, images, and objects spanning centuries and continents collide and coalesce, forging fresh connections between seemingly disparate works. An international roster of artists includes Ilit Azoulay, Michelle Grabner and Brad Killam, Camille Henrot, Vik Muiz, Michael Oatman, Sara VanDerBeek, and Hew Locke. The exhibition seeks to find affinities in unexpected juxtapositions. In so doing, it underscores the museum's laboratory-like mission of experimentation and builds on the strengths and surprises of the Tang's collection.

Saratoga Arts, 320 Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866

Working from sketches and photos in the landscape subject matter of your choice, learn to build form by layering strokes with an expanded palette of color and limited value range. Valley Artisans Market Small Gallery (10:00 AM - 7:00 PM)
25 Main Street, Cambridge, NY 12816
The Valley Artisans Market will be presenting works by Robert Whiting and Susan Bayard Whiting, in the Small Gallery, September 25th - October 27. An Opening Reception is planned for September 26th from 6-8PM. 25 East Main Street, Cambridge NY.

Robert Whiting's goal as an artist is to create greater illusions, reflecting more current themes while paying homage to the old masters. The objective is not only to deceive the viewer but to also entertain them with subtle humor and sometimes glimpses into my life. Occasionally incorporating his image in a reflection, include family members names carved into woodwork, or animate one of the subjects in the work. Sometimes it's so subtle that it's easily missed.

Susan Bayard Whiting's work is created using the alla prima oil painting technique which allows spontaneity and freshness that no other media can match. Her landscapes as well as her still life work are inspired by the simple things in life. She is moved to capture a subject not only by its sheer beauty but also by the way light plays off the colors of each element.

Valley Artisans Market Small Gallery - Opening Reception (6:00 PM - 8:00 PM)

Eric Paslay-Vapor Live (7:00 PM)
Vapor Night Club-Saratoga Casino and Raceway
Born in Abilene, Texas and raised in Waco and Temple. By the age of 16, Paslay had already written and recorded 10 songs that he played out around Texas. When Paslay moved to Nashville to pursue a music career, he eventually landed his own deal with the Cal IV in 2006. His songwriting and his impressive voice began garnering attention from labels and he signed with EMI Records Nashville. Paslay says he began writing songs because he wanted to sing them for people. "I turn it on when I get on stage. I love to entertain," says Paslay. Fans who have seen him on stage will testify there is so much more to the tall, Texas redhead than his excellent songwriting ability. Paslay is a charismatic performer and a potent vocalist who knows how to connect with an audience. As his hit singles "Friday Night" and "Song About A Girl" reach the upper level of the charts, Paslay has arrived as an artist in his own right.
